Restoration, refurbishment and new build
Working with Peter Alliss Golf Course Designs in 1992 Brooks Murray were successful in achieving planning approvals for 2 championship golf courses, a clubhouse based around the Grade II* and Grade II Listed Old Diary and carpentry shop and greenkeeper facilities, a 2.2 mile track and facilities for outdoor corporate events, as well as the conversion of Warren House to a restaurant, Warren Farm to residential accommodation, and the provision of a pre school/crèche.
The design of the 15000 sq ft clubhouse combined strict restoration, radical refurbishment and new build and incorporates a great deal of our thinking on the issue of sustainability. All existing structures with potential for continued use have been retained. Materials found on site were used wherever possible including the timber and much of the labour force was on site or local. With Max Fordman consulting engineers Brooks Murray devised a combination of opening windows and vents providing cross-draughts to make mechanical ventilation of the internal mass of the refurbished buildings unnecessary.
The function room was designed to match the existing Queen Post oak barn on the estate. It was constructed using local timber by local carpenters on the estate. The glass conservatory link acts as a heat sink to provide an efficient way of insulating and heating the buildings.
