Denbigh Terrace

London

Conversion of flat

Denbigh terrace is a Victorian terrace off Portabello Rd which started out with a typical Victorian plan.

The young owner wanted to transform the ordinary to the extraordinary, but within the constraints of a tight budget, and short timescale.

By cutting out a part of the ground floor to create a dramatic double volume on the lower ground floor, the whole of that floor is transformed from a dingy basement to a the dramatic piece de resistance of the design.

Exposing the structural elements and using robust, “hard” materials, the house now has a completely contemporary feeling, knitted into the old building.
