The Old Kennels Visitor Centre Complete

The first phase redevelopment of the Old Kennels and its former courtyard is the first of several Brooks Murray projects to be delivered across the Bathurst Estate.

We were asked to study the Old Kennels Grade II listed complex and its setting, the historic footprint of former buildings on site, and to bring new life to a group of redundant structures that had fallen into poor repair. The aim was to create a settled community of occupiers and open up public access to this part of the park.

At the heart of the scheme is Roots & Seeds, a new restaurant with its own kitchen garden growing vegetables for the menu, as well as Corinium Ales microbrewery, Cattivo Pizza and P.I.Lates exercise studio, a mix of independent occupiers set around a series of courtyards.

The restored main courtyard gives the buildings a shared public space for events, and its use is expected to evolve over time, with open-air cinema among the possibilities for future seasons.
